During February, Spotify took the step into selling physical books. From this week, the function has been rolled out to the US and UK markets. This means that users can complete purchases of printed books directly via the Spotify app.
This is happening through a collaboration with the e-commerce platform Bookshop.org, a marketplace focused on supporting independent and local bookstores.
When a user visits an audiobook page in the app, a button with the text "Add a copy to your bookshelf" now appears.
A click on the button redirects the customer to Bookshop's website. It is then that platform that manages the entire e-commerce flow, which includes pricing, inventory, and book delivery. Currently, the function is open to Android users, while iOS users will have access to e-commerce next week, writes Techcrunch.
