On Saturday, October 17th, the hobby and crafts chain Slöjd-Detaljer opened its new city store at Västra Hamngatan 21 in central Gothenburg. A queue had formed outside the premises at the opening, with visitors and craftspeople waiting to enter.

It feels fantastic to finally open the doors here in the heart of Gothenburg City. The queue stretched long before we even opened, and hearing customers shout that we are finally in town says everything about why we wanted to be located right here, says Caroline Hedberg, Deputy CEO and Marketing Manager at Slöjd-Detaljer.

Fifth Store in Sweden

The establishment on Västra Hamngatan is the company's fifth physical store in Sweden and the second in Gothenburg, where the sister store on Eriksberg remains as usual. The chain also has physical stores in Skara, Stockholm and Malmö, in addition to its e-commerce business which covers Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland.

In August, Ehandel.se reported on how Slöjd-Detaljer chose to expand physically with the Gothenburg investment despite a challenging year marked by extensive system changes.

Growing Interest in Crafts

Slöjd-Detaljer was founded in 1960 and is a family business now run by the third generation. The range includes around 10,000 articles within hobby, crafts and handicrafts, with a focus on yarn, clay, ceramics, wood crafts and jewelry making.

The new store in Gothenburg is managed by store manager Johanna Holub. According to the company, the demand for creating with your hands continues to increase, among other things as a counterweight to screen time and digital everyday stress.
