Sail Racing Sees Revenue Decline – Millions Lost Due to Weak Market

CEO Joakim Berne and Pär Svärdson
Struggling against the wind.

It started near the coast, but as the sailboats began to lift off the water and speeds increased, Sail Racing moved out into the open seas. The Swedish brand, which designs clothing for extreme conditions, today dresses everyone from world athletes to successful business professionals. But as the company now closes the books for the latest financial year, it is clear that the economic tailwind has subsided somewhat, not least at home.

As the company summarizes the figures for the latest financial year 2025, a picture emerges of a tougher market. During the year, revenue landed at SEK 182.8 million, a decrease of approximately 17 percent compared to the previous year.

Operating profit also declined. It stopped at SEK 5.9 million, which is a decrease of 41.5 percent from the year before, when operating profit was SEK 10 million.

The company's books paint a picture of a tough economic climate, where the domestic market in particular has presented resistance. To counter the sluggish sales, the company has had to adapt and streamline the organization.

The goal has been to make the business run more efficiently and to sharpen the ability to compete. But the purse strings have not been completely closed. Despite tightening its belt, the company chooses to continue investing in the future.

Sail Racing has continued to develop new products and invested in strengthening the brand. The company explains that this is done to create a stable foundation that will secure long-term growth. But no quick improvement is visible on the horizon.

The challenging market situation is expected to persist, with continued uncertainty linked to economic developments and the global situation, the report states.

Apotea Founder's Role Behind the Scenes

The company's CEO is Joakim Berne, but the board also includes more familiar faces from the e-commerce industry. Since autumn 2020, Pär Svärdson, founder of Apotea, has been a board member. What many may not know is that Pär Svärdson is a sailing enthusiast who has won gold medals in Swedish championships.

I have always liked and used Sail Racing's clothes, it is literally my work uniform, Pär Svärdson said in a previous statement.

In addition to him, there is Chairman Per Hesselmark and board members Anna Gunnarsson and Martin Rydell. Per Hesselmark is a partner in the Swedish investment company R12 Kapital.

The company sells its products globally through its own e-commerce platform and through wholesalers. In the Swedish market, e-commerce is also complemented today by three of its own physical stores, located in Kungsbacka, Gothenburg and Stockholm.
