The weddings will take place at five locations around the country, specifically in Malmö, Linköping, Jönköping, Uddevalla and Karlstad. The company is arranging a civil wedding officiant and creating a special environment among the furniture for the ceremony. After the papers are signed, guests are offered food and the couple receives a gift to take home.
In total, this opportunity is available to three couples per warehouse. Before the ceremony, the couple must have completed a marriage investigation with the Swedish Tax Agency, have two witnesses and valid identification.
Martina Bjuvenius, Head of Home Furnishing at Ikea Sweden, states in a press release that the company hopes to contribute to a memorable moment for those who choose to participate.
Community often begins with opening our hearts and saying yes – and that also applies to the lifelong community, she says.
Waiting Lists Ahead of Launch
When Ehandel.se contacted Ikea to inquire about the registration status since the news was released, it became clear that the places had quickly been booked up. Joakim Borgudd at Ingka Group Sweden confirms that there are not enough places for everyone who has shown interest.
The interest has been great, I cannot share exact figures but I know that in several warehouses there are waiting lists as there are more people who want to get married than we have space for, says press contact Joakim Borgudd to Ehandel.se.
According to the company, the idea behind the event is to test a new approach that goes beyond ordinary furniture sales. By moving weddings into the showroom floors, Ikea is trying to broaden the use of its warehouses and integrate the business more into customers' personal everyday lives.
We like to surprise and delight our customers and from that the idea was born to give the opportunity to say yes in a slightly different way in our warehouses. In this way, we also invite people to celebrate together and it is connected to our vision of creating a better life for the many people. Community often begins with opening our hearts and saying yes, says Joakim Borgudd.
In response to Ehandel.se's question about whether Ikea has arranged weddings before, in Sweden or internationally, Joakim states that the concept is entirely new to the company.
To my knowledge, this is the first time weddings have been arranged at Ikea in this form. So we are very much looking forward to June 27th, concludes Joakim Borgudd.
