Prisjakt Sverige AB announces that the company will soon file a lawsuit against Google with the Patent and Market Court in Stockholm. The claim for damages amounts to 21.4 billion Swedish krona and concerns financial losses that Prisjakt believes it has suffered as a result of Google abusing its dominant market position.
The background to the lawsuit is the European Commission's decision from 2017 in the so-called Google Shopping case. The Commission then ruled that Google had favored its own price comparison service in search results over competing services. The decision was finally confirmed by the Court of Justice of the European Union in September 2024.
Continued Favoring of Own Services
Prisjakt's claim for damages covers both the violation that the Commission's decision concerned and Google's actions during the subsequent period. Prisjakt's position is that Google has continued to favor its own services over competitors. This view is based, among other things, on the European Commission's decision from July 2026, which revealed that Google had violated the Digital Markets Act by unfairly favoring its own services in areas such as shopping.
Prisjakt has long operated in a market where Google has a very strong position and where the Court of Justice of the European Union has finally established Google's violation of competition rules. We have analyzed how this has affected Prisjakt and assess that the company is entitled to compensation for the damage that has occurred. Therefore, we are now pursuing the matter legally, says Peter Greberg, CEO of Prisjakt.
Google rejects the accusations and the claim made. Joakim Larsson, Communications Manager for Google in Sweden, announces in a written comment to Ehandel.se that the company will defend its position.
We strongly oppose these lawsuits regarding our Shopping ads. They are brought by companies that would rather receive payouts than invest in their own products. The number of price comparison services in Europe that use the system we rolled out as part of our changes in 2017 has multiplied - from 7 to more than 1550 today, without any intervention from the European Commission. We will firmly defend our position against this completely unreasonable claim for damages, says Joakim Larsson.
