On Tuesday morning, the online pharmacy Meds inaugurated its new logistics hub in Eskilstuna. The facility represents a tripling of the company's warehouse space and provides the capacity to also triple turnover in the long term, five to six years. This is said to be in line with the company's financial goals.

Present at the ribbon-cutting ceremony were Meds CEO and co-founder Björn Thorngren, together with Eskilstuna’s municipal council chairman Marie Svensson. The new facility now brings together pharmacists, customer service and logistics staff to manage the online pharmacy's range of prescription and over-the-counter medicines, as well as self-care products. The company also announced that in connection with the commissioning, it has strengthened its automation capacity.

This is the single most important establishment we are making for the coming years. We enable continued profitable growth for many years to come and can also expand further in the future if we so desire,” says Björn Thorngren.

"Over a hundred jobs"

For the Eskilstuna municipality, the establishment represents an addition to the local labor market. According to Marie Svensson, the investment confirms the city’s position as a logistics hub.

The fact that a stable growing company that supplies people all over Sweden with medicines chooses to locate its distribution and pharmaceutical handling here demonstrates just that strength,” says Marie Svensson, adding:

Well over a hundred jobs from the start, in a facility built for much more than that, is exactly the type of establishment we want to see in Eskilstuna.

The establishment in Eskilstuna follows a second quarter in which Meds, for the first time, generated over 300 million Swedish krona in a single quarter and reported an adjusted operating profit of 6 million Swedish krona. As the company has previously communicated, the move is expected to have a one-time impact of approximately 25 million Swedish krona on turnover and 6 million Swedish krona on earnings. This impact is primarily related to temporary capacity restrictions and direct transition costs.

The operation and staffing of the new warehouse are managed through an agreement with Arena Personal, a solution that the company believes is cost-neutral compared to its previous logistics structure.
