From a dark storage unit without electricity in Västerås to an international e-commerce rocket in eight countries. Laglappen continues to stitch together its figures and closes its latest year with a very strong profit.

The idea was born at Kristianstad University during the course Waste in Cycles. The founders quickly realized the gigantic environmental impact of the global textile industry and how much clothing is thrown away unnecessarily. The solution became an e-commerce platform with a clear focus on patches and a vision for anyone to be able to repair like a home professional. According to the company, the basic idea has been clear since the start:

Let's open a shop where we focus on patches so that more people realize that it is possible to repair even if you got an F in sewing, they write on their website.

The story of Laglappen formally began in March 2020. On March 18th, the very first order came in from a woman in Övertorneå, which became the real starting shot for a breathtaking entrepreneurial journey.

We are eternally grateful for that order, write the founders.

From Darkness to International Expansion

The journey forward has, however, been filled with challenges. During the autumn of 2020, the business had outgrown the living room and the move went to a storage unit at Shurgard in Västerås.

The only problem was that it lacked electricity. There they sat in the dark packing orders before they finally moved to Kopparlunden in 2021, where there was both warmth and lighting.

Today, the business is housed in significantly larger premises along the E18 in the same city.

The concept has proven to be very scalable. After successes in Sweden, the company has stepped on the gas and rolled out widely in Europe. Norway and Denmark were launched in 2023, followed by Finland and Germany in 2024.

During the past year, the company took the step into the Netherlands, Great Britain and Austria. Today, Laglappen is therefore present in eight markets in total.

Margins that Impress

A look at the recent annual report shows that the success continues unabated. Turnover climbed from 34.6 million Swedish krona to 36.6 million Swedish krona.

At the same time, operating profit increased to 9.9 million Swedish krona, up from 9.5 million Swedish krona the previous year. This gives an operating margin of 27 percent.

The profit after tax for the year landed on 7.8 million Swedish krona. The strong economy means that the owners now choose to treat themselves to a dividend of 7.8 million Swedish krona, which means that they have distributed a total of almost 15 million Swedish krona in the last two years.

The business is currently run by nine employees. The cash balance amounts to 14.1 million Swedish krona and the equity ratio is 70.5 percent.
