Koningsdesign AB (formerly LB-Lux) Files for Bankruptcy Following E-commerce Venture

From profit to liquidity problems.

Koningsdesign AB, a company in the lighting industry based in Kungsbacka, has filed for bankruptcy. The company, which recently launched a new e-commerce platform, was hit hard by the economic challenges of recent years.

The company commenced operations in 2009 under the name Ledbutiken, with a physical store on Kabelgatan in Kungsbacka. The initial focus was on LED lighting. In 2011, the company changed its name to LB-LUX. Over the years, the business expanded to include CAD, 3D rendering, and in-house production, while the workforce was expanded to handle both assembly and sales.

Later, the company changed its name to Koningsdesign AB. Their stated goal was to offer lighting solutions and customized lighting concepts for both private individuals and companies.

Revenue Halved

In 2023, revenue increased significantly to SEK 10.8 million, resulting in a profit of just under SEK 1.2 million. However, this positive development was broken in 2024 when revenue halved to SEK 5.4 million, dragging the result down to a loss of nearly SEK 3.5 million.

According to the annual report, the company was severely affected by the weak economic climate in Sweden. The company cited sharply rising electricity prices, high inflation, increased interest rates, and a weakened Swedish krona against the US dollar as decisive factors. As a large part of the company's business was based on the import of components and products, the exchange rate development had a direct negative impact on the financial result.

E-commerce Venture Not Enough

To reverse the negative trend and reach a wider customer base, the company's stated strategy was to launch its own e-commerce platform in 2025–2026. Twelve weeks ago, the company announced via social media that the online store had opened, with the message: "Now KONINGS webshop is open - Discover the right light for your home".

Despite early signs of increased orders and hopes from the board of continued operations, the measures were not enough. On June 18, 2026, Gothenburg District Court made a decision to declare the company bankrupt.
