Arkivet, founded in 2017, sells second-hand fashion on commission and currently has stores in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö. Through the new agreement, Kappahl is entering as a majority owner, which is intended to provide Arkivet with the resources needed to scale up and establish itself in more locations, starting in the Nordic market.

The acquisition is part of Kappahl's strategy to build a portfolio of brands that are operated independently but with access to group-wide resources.

We are impressed by Arkivet's concept where second hand is packaged and offered in a modern way to customers who want to both buy and sell clothes, says Elisabeth Peregi, CEO and Group Chief Executive of Kappahl Group, and continues:

Arkivet represents a business model we strongly believe in. By investing in Arkivet, we are strengthening our position within circular fashion.

Arkivet's CEO, Martin Hallander, states that the collaboration will allow the company to make its business model more accessible.

With Kappahl Group as a majority owner, we get a strong partner and better conditions to expand and develop further, while continuing to be Arkivet, says Martin Hallander.

In addition to the acquisition of Arkivet, Kappahl Group will continue its work with its internal circular initiatives for the Kappahl and Newbie brands.

Arkivet handles approximately 400,000 garments annually and launched a digital platform in the spring of 2023 to manage customers' consignment sales. Kappahl Group operates around 350 stores in six countries as well as e-commerce in over 30 markets.
