The closure came suddenly. Maintenance work revealed that the warehouse, which had been in operation for 16 years, lacked reinforcement in its structure. The company acted immediately and locked the premises.
In the initial phase, the company assessed that the closure would last for twelve months. Staff were sent home with pay, and customers were directed to the company's e-commerce site and a temporary store of 3,000 square meters in a neighboring location.

Now it is clear that the new opening will take place on November 19th.
This means that the warehouse has been closed for longer than the initial forecast. During this period, the building has been renovated and reinforced.
New format
When the doors in Boländerna reopen, visitors will be met with the new format. Specifically, this means that the warehouse will shrink to an area of approximately 25,000 square meters. Previously, the area was 38,000 square meters.
According to the company, the purpose of the new design is to make the store more accessible.
Despite the reduced area, the company states that the entire range will be available on site to offer customers a complete experience. The restaurant with breakfast, hot dishes and coffee will also be retained on the second floor as before.
We are really looking forward to welcoming our customers back to the warehouse. We have been looking forward to this day for a long time and I know our customers have too, says Viktoria Collén, warehouse manager at Ikea Uppsala.
First in Sweden
The updated design of the warehouse is being launched as a new concept on the Swedish market. The work is now in its final stages before the opening.
Our new warehouse is the first of its kind in Sweden. We are happy and grateful to be part of Uppsala and to be able to offer our customers a complete IKEA experience in a new format, says Viktoria Collén.
