In March, Ehandel.se reported on the Finnish low-price chain Puuilo's plans for Swedish expansion. Now, the company announces that the first lease agreement has been signed.
Before the end of the year, the first Swedish store will open in the Marieberg shopping area in Örebro, next to Rusta and Byggmax. The premises cover approximately 3,200 square meters, and recruitment of around 13 employees will begin shortly.
Sweden is a natural next step for Puuilo, and we are very pleased to have signed our first lease agreement in Sweden. We have worked systematically to enter the market, and we are now ready to make Puuilo's wide range available to Swedish customers, says CEO Juha Saarela.
He adds that Örebro and Marieberg offer a commercial environment and customer flows that support their concept.
This is an important first step for us, and from here we will begin to build our store network in Sweden, says Juha Saarela.
Puuilo primarily targets do-it-yourself customers and businesses. The range includes, among other things, construction, garden, car care, plumbing, pets, tools and groceries.
Ready for Swedish E-Commerce
While the physical store network is being built, a review of Puuilo's Swedish website shows that an e-commerce launch appears to be imminent. The page's source code currently hides a full-scale e-commerce platform built on Magento 2 (Adobe Commerce). The code also shows active integrations with the payment solution Svea Ekonomi, the search tool Algolia, and modules for shopping cart and customer login. Most indications suggest that the online store may open in connection with the store premiere in Örebro.
Puuilo currently operates nearly 60 stores in Finland, as well as a domestic e-commerce business. For the 2025 financial year, the company reported a turnover of 442 million euros and an operating profit of 75 million euros, corresponding to a margin of 17 percent.
According to the company's previous communication, the concept is built around achieving profitability early, with new stores generally being profitable one month after opening. For the time being, the company refers Swedish customers to the Finnish website to familiarize themselves with the range.
