Ahead of the upcoming Christmas rush, DHL Freight is upgrading the technology at its Swedish service points. The new system, called Disa, is based on a handheld device with an integrated scanner. According to the company, this means that staff can scan packages directly on site, eliminating the need to carry shipments to a fixed terminal and thus saving time during high volumes.
Our service points are a very important part of our network and we are investing to give them the best possible conditions when package volumes grow. It can be seconds in each moment, but when large quantities of packages are handled, those seconds make a big difference for our service points, says Johan Widman, Head of Business Area e-commerce at DHL Freight Sweden.
The rollout is currently underway at a rate of over 100 service points per week and is expected to be fully completed by the end of November. The upgrade of the service point network is part of the logistics operator's ongoing investment of over 2 billion Swedish krona in Swedish e-commerce logistics.
