Delivery Hero, which owns the Foodora brand among others, announces that Niklas Östberg is stepping down as CEO after 15 years in the position. The transition, according to the company, is taking place in consultation with the board of directors, and the goal is to have a new CEO appointed by the end of 2026.
On LinkedIn, Niklas Östberg comments on the decision:
Delivery Hero has been my life's work, and today marks the beginning of its next chapter.
In a press release from the company, he elaborates on the handover:
Fifteen years ago, we started Delivery Hero in Berlin with a simple idea and a small team. Today, we are the leading player in over 50 markets, and deliver to hundreds of millions of customers each year. This is the right time to begin handing over the company to its next chapter.
Until a successor is in place, Niklas Östberg will remain CEO to ensure continuity. During this period, he will lead the next phase of the strategic review and the M&A processes initiated in December 2025.
The company's Chairman of the Board, Kristin Skogen Lund, says the following about the CEO change:
Niklas built Delivery Hero. Few founders take a company from a Berlin startup to a global platform serving hundreds of millions of customers. The board thanks Niklas for fifteen years of building.
Delivery Hero was founded in 2011 as a home delivery service for food and has been listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange since 2017. In addition to his role as CEO of Delivery Hero, Niklas Östberg has also been a member of the board of directors of the fashion giant Zalando since 2021.
