Rolling out new e-commerce platform.

The online bookstore Adlibris has replaced its entire e-commerce system with a new solution. Over a period of five months, the company has rebuilt its digital platform from the ground up, and the entire transition has been completed without any interruption in sales. The technology change is taking place with the aim of shortening customers' path from search to payment and reducing friction in the purchase flow.

Instead of relying on a single system, the online bookstore has chosen to build the new e-commerce platform using several independent modules. Suppliers such as Brink Commerce, Algolia, Kustom and Ingrid now manage different parts of the customer journey, from search functions to payment and delivery.

The new architecture is designed to handle the company's range of 15 million books and products. The change affects the company's operations and separate companies in two different countries.

We delivered a project that no one thought was possible in five months. The entire core – data structure, search, campaigns, shopping cart, checkout and gift cards – was rebuilt from the ground up. The result is a platform that gives our teams better conditions to work quickly and create really good experiences for Adlibris customers, says Magnus Nyström, CTO of Adlibris.

Shipping Options Controlled by Real-time Data

In connection with the platform change, the online bookstore is moving the selection of shipping directly into the checkout. Previously, this function was a separate integration, but now delivery data from Ingrid has been linked to Kustom's shipping selector as a cohesive part of the purchase flow.

The system can therefore read the customer's information in real time to control which delivery options are displayed on the screen. The strategy is to present the right options for each individual buyer to increase the number of completed purchases, boost revenue for shipping and reduce the number of returns.
