It is Katarzyna Niemirowicz-Majtas who is leaving the H&M group to take over as Global Head of Retail at Mango. She had her first working day at the Spanish fashion house in May this year, as responsible for Northern Europe. Now she has been promoted and replaces César de Vicente, who has chosen to move on to other assignments outside the company.
Her new task is to lead Mango's strategic business plan until 2026. This involves optimizing and growing the physical store network, but above all, connecting it with e-commerce.
Drove digitalization during the crisis
Katarzyna Niemirowicz-Majtas has a long career behind her in retail. At H&M, she worked her way up from store manager to most recently leading the commercial strategy for 20 countries with 18,000 employees.
During the pandemic, she was head of H&M in Spain and Portugal. When the crisis hit, she was forced to quickly restructure the business. She pushed for digital development, accelerated the transition to e-commerce and changed how the company worked with its omnichannel strategy.
This meant an increased focus on ensuring that the customer experience online worked seamlessly with the physical stores.
Building a digital ecosystem
Her experience in strengthening the online customer experience and integrating it with physical retail is highlighted as central to her new assignment. At Mango, there is now a strong focus on continuing to develop what the company calls an integrated retail network.
E-commerce should not function as a separate part, but should be interwoven with the stores to create a common ecosystem.
I embrace this new challenge with the goal of improving operational efficiency, driving profitable growth across our network and raising the experience for our customers around the world, side by side with a very good team, says Katarzyna Niemirowicz-Majtas.
In her new role, she joins the management team and reports to Mango's CEO, Toni Ruiz.
The recruitment is a step in the company's business plan, known as 4E, which extends until 2026. One of the main tracks in this strategy is called "Empower" and specifically deals with attracting leaders with global competence. The idea is that recruitments of this caliber will support the company's overall expansion, prepare the organization for the coming years and ensure that e-commerce and physical stores continue to gain market share internationally.
