For ICA stores in Sweden, online sales increased by 13.4 percent compared to the same period last year, resulting in e-commerce revenue of 1.73 billion Swedish krona. The average market growth for online groceries during the same period was 9.7 percent according to the Grocery Index. E-commerce now accounts for 2.9 percent of ICA Sweden's total sales, and the results for the e-commerce business improved during the quarter. ICA Group CEO Nina Jönsson highlights the development in her report commentary.
E-commerce is developing positively and cross-border trade has been particularly strong during the summer months, says Nina Jönsson.
Apotek Hjärtat increases e-commerce share
Within the pharmacy segment, Apotek Hjärtat reports e-commerce growth of 22.2 percent, generating sales of nearly 1.21 billion Swedish krona. Here too, growth was higher than for the market as a whole, which is estimated to have increased by around 11 percent. This means that online sales now account for 15.2 percent of Apotek Hjärtat's total turnover.
We are growing and increasing our market share in both physical pharmacies and online. This shows that our focus on accessibility, relevance and quality in the customer experience is working well, explains Nina Jönsson.
IT investments and digital projects
The Group announces that it plans to invest between six and seven billion Swedish krona during the full year 2026. A significant portion of these funds will be directed towards logistics, properties and IT. As part of the digital development, ICA Utlämning is participating in an innovation project for circular e-commerce packaging, where around thirty stores are being tested as return points for reusable packaging. Furthermore, the Group has rolled out its first product equipped with only a 2D code. The technology is intended to, among other things, streamline shrinkage monitoring and increase traceability and transparency.
We are making significant investments in IT to meet the demands of the future. We need to enable faster decision-making, a more data-driven approach and better customer experiences in all channels, comments Nina Jönsson.
The Group in brief
In addition to e-commerce, the entire ICA Group shows a higher result during the second quarter of 2026. The Group's net sales amounted to just over 51 billion Swedish krona, an increase of 5 percent compared to the corresponding period last year. Operating profit, excluding items affecting comparability, amounted to 2.74 billion Swedish krona, up from 2.11 billion Swedish krona the year before. The improvement in results is explained by higher sales volumes, savings programs and property transactions.
We will continue to be the first choice for everyday life in Sweden – with the right price here and now, high availability in both physical and digital commerce and with consideration for both the customer's wallet and the long-term needs of society, concludes Nina Jönsson.
