Biltema closes department store in Egersund after failed lease negotiations

Biltema announces that it will close its department store in Egersund, Norway. The decision is based on the fact that the retail chain and the property owner have not been able to agree on an extension of the lease agreement.

The department store will remain open as usual until the closure, which is planned to be carried out before the summer of 2027. An exact date for the closure has not yet been determined.

The company states that it intends to take care of the employees affected by the decision. All employees at the department store in Egersund will be offered positions at other units in the region, for example in Bryne, Sandnes and Stavanger.

We would also like to thank our customers in Egersund and the surrounding area for many years of trust. Until the department store closes its doors, we will continue to be present and deliver the service that customers expect from us,” says Lasse Aleksander Nilsen, Marketing Manager at Biltema Norway.

The closure takes place during a period when the chain as a whole shows a recruitment need in the country. In August, the company issued an open invitation to personnel affected by the Bauhaus bankruptcy to apply for vacant positions at nearby Biltema department stores, with reference to the fact that retail experience is highly valued.

While one unit is closing in Norway, the chain has a different strategy in the Swedish market, where the focus is currently on physical expansion. Recently, the construction of a new department store in Gislaved was announced, which is expected to be completed in 2027 and is expected to create around 30 new jobs. The company has also recently opened a new department store in Säffle, expanded in Botkyrka and secured land for future establishments in Köping and Falun.
