Until now, recipients have had a full week to pick up their deliveries. This has often resulted in full parcel lockers, forcing the logistics operator to redirect orders to locations other than those originally chosen by the customer.
Now, changes are being implemented in Sweden, Norway and Denmark to create a faster throughput. Finland will have to wait for the same implementation until 2027.
We are now working to achieve a storage time of normally three days, so that more spaces become available in the parcel boxes – and you can pick up your package in a parcel box at a convenient distance from your home, writes Postnord.
How the extension works
The basic rule from now on is three days, but via the Postnord app, it is possible to manually postpone your last collection day, up to a total of seven days. The service is initially free of charge.
However, there are times of the year when the flexibility of the system is limited.
During periods of high load, the storage time may temporarily be shorter to ensure fast deliveries, writes Postnord about the new terms.
Tripled returns in the spring
The introduction comes after a spring in which online retailers raised the alarm about a rapid increase in uncollected packages. In some cases, returns to retailers' warehouses tripled.
The reason was a notification change at Postnord in February. Customers who used the company's app stopped receiving reminders via text message and were instead expected to rely on push notifications. Many consumers missed the information - about the fact that SMS messages would stop coming, which, combined with the fact that shipments did not always appear in the app, led to the time at the agents expiring.

More completed changes
The change in parcel boxes is part of several revisions that Postnord announced in April and implemented in May this year.
The service previously known as Varubrev has been renamed Postnord Home Small and now allows packages up to three kilograms. In addition, digital tools have been renamed, with the platform Postnord Portal Business now called Företagsportalen.
Requirements for barcodes for letters with goods sent to Denmark have also been introduced.
