The company, which sells interior design and materials from the early 20th century to the 1950s, today operates four physical stores in Malmö, Gothenburg and Stockholm.
Alongside the stores, e-commerce has grown and become an increasingly important driver for the business. Last year, Byggfabriken's turnover increased by 20 percent to SEK 94.1 million. At the same time, operating profit increased by 106 percent, from SEK 4.9 million to SEK 10.1 million.
New leadership for digital expansion
To lead the initiative forward, Magnus Noord is stepping into the role of Head of Digital Growth and Marketing.
He brings experience from the digital agency Topvisible, where he was a co-founder. Previously, he has also held the position of CEO at Proad, where he led the company's revenue increase from SEK 15 million to SEK 55 million, and has worked in e-commerce at companies such as Euroflorist and Golvpoolen.
He also teaches digital strategy and e-commerce at IHM Business School.
The company's CEO, Katarina Welin, points out that the recruitment is a strategic step to adapt the organization for upcoming launches and to reach new target groups:
Magnus is a key recruitment for us in our growth journey. He adds digital expertise and experience that complements us and will be crucial as we now take the next step. This is a strategically important investment for Byggfabriken and I am very pleased that Magnus chooses to make the journey with us, says Katarina Welin.
Sights set on Denmark
One of the new steps has already been taken with the launch of e-commerce in Denmark at the end of last year. Interest from the neighboring country already existed, as Danish consumers account for one in five customers in the physical store in Malmö.
To help build on online sales, the company also has a customer club which now comprises 85,000 members. Magnus Noord sees a clear path forward with the existing range:
Byggfabriken has a customer club with 85,000 members and a product that is perfectly suited for e-commerce. The potential to grow digitally, both in Sweden and internationally, is great. It is an assignment I really look forward to, says Magnus Noord.
