The company's history began when founder Carolina Angland and her husband Mats searched for alternatives to the traditional snacks in grocery stores. The inspiration came after an episode of the American TV show Shark Tank, where mini popcorn was presented.
After testing samples from various growers, a family farm in the USA was found that had been growing gourmet popcorn for four generations.
Since the grower did not sell outside of the USA, the minimum possible order was a full container, which corresponded to 17 tons of popcorn kernels. The family decided to purchase the container and then began building the brand and packaging from home.
Our vision is simple: to take popcorn into the living room. To show how much taste, variation and craftsmanship actually fits into one of the world's oldest snacks, writes Carolina Angland on the website.
Student gift that gave new momentum
The company was founded in 2017 and sells popcorn kernels and popcorn seasonings through its own webshop and through retailers. When the business was in danger of stagnating for a period, a change in management was carried out.
The eldest son, Cliff Angland, was given the role of new CEO as a student gift. And since Cliff Angland took over responsibility, sales have increased.
The goal now is for the company to reach a turnover of 10 million Swedish krona in 2026.
Record year and turnaround to profit
According to the annual report for 2025, The Popping Company experienced its record year. Turnover landed at 2.6 million Swedish krona. This is an increase of 697 percent compared to the previous year, when turnover amounted to 331,530 Swedish krona.
Operating profit also turned from loss to profit and amounted to 633,200 Swedish krona in 2025. This compares to an operating profit of -207,000 Swedish krona in 2024.
Behind the figures is a relaunch of the company's webshop. The company has also worked with performance-based marketing and developed its packaging and margins.
Sales increased towards the end of the year, and during the fourth quarter of 2025, turnover accounted for more than 50 percent of the full-year turnover.
We built up a cash reserve during the year and the company also showed a good profit on the bottom line, writes the company in the management report and adds that confidence in the future is very good.
