The development is largely driven by non-daily consumer goods retail. Within this segment, sales volume increased by 1.4 percent compared to the previous month and by 8 percent compared to June last year. Daily consumer goods retail, excluding Systembolaget, showed an increase of 0.4 percent compared to May and 5.3 percent compared to June last year.

Quarterly Comparison

When reviewing the latest three-month period, April to June, the total sales volume in retail trade was 2.3 percent higher than in the first three months of the year. During this period, daily consumer goods retail increased by 2.9 percent while non-daily consumer goods retail noted an increase of 1.9 percent.

Measured in current prices, the total turnover of retail trade increased by 4.7 percent in June compared to the same month last year. Non-daily consumer goods retail increased by 7.3 percent in this measurement and daily consumer goods retail by 1.3 percent.

New Measurement Method

In connection with the statistics, SCB announces that since April, they have been applying a new method for collecting turnover data. For small and medium-sized enterprises in the service sector, the statistics are now based on VAT returns from Skatteverket instead of direct collection. This change means that nearly 4,000 companies no longer need to submit monthly turnover data. According to SCB, the method is expected to lead to improved quality in the estimates and a reduction in discrepancies in the statistics.
