PostNord Invests 500 Million in New Parcel Terminal in Timrå

Creates hundreds of jobs.

Swedes' online shopping habits continue to persist, and logistics networks are constantly facing new challenges to keep up with the pace. As the number of parcels spins faster and faster from e-retailers' warehouses to waiting consumers, infrastructure is needed to handle the volumes in the long term.

To keep pace with developments and prepare for future deliveries, Postnord is now starting the plans for a large construction project. The project is part of a national effort to secure the network throughout the country, and now the map is being redrawn as a whole new piece of the puzzle is to be put in place.

The new facility for handling parcels and pallets will be located at Sundsvall Timrå Airport in the Midlanda area of Västernorrlands County. It will replace the logistics company's current terminal in Sundsvall.

The move is being made to increase capacity in the network. The investment in the project is over 500 million Swedish krona, and when the facility is operational, it will require over 200 jobs.

We are pleased to be able to move forward with the establishment of a new terminal in the Midlanda area of Timrå. The new terminal strengthens PostNord's presence in northern Sweden and gives us the conditions to meet a growing parcel market. Swedish e-commerce turned over approximately SEK 153 billion last year and shows no sign of slowing down. I see the terminal as a hub towards the rest of Norrland and a necessity as the parcel market is growing at a record pace, says Peter Gisel-Ekdahl, CEO of Postnord Sverige.

Long-Term Lease Agreement

The area covers almost 8 hectares of land. The land deal has been completed between the municipal company Timrå Invest and the company Inhubs. Postnord will not own the property itself, but the solution will instead be to enter into an agreement to rent the building from Inhubs for 15 years.

Ground will be broken as early as this autumn, and the terminal is expected to open for operation during the first quarter of 2028.
