Google Shopping Tests Direct Links To E-Commerce Websites

"Doesn't think it will be more".

Google is currently conducting a test where users who click on a product in Google Shopping are linked directly to the e-commerce website.

Normally, when a user clicks on a product in the search results, a panel with more information about the specific item opens. In the new test, Google instead chooses to skip the intermediate step and direct traffic directly to a retailer, instead of showing multiple.

The change was first noticed by user Sachin Patel on the X platform and subsequently confirmed by Brodie Clark, reports industry site Seroundtable.

Swedish SEO expert Pontus Vippelius, however, assesses that this is not a permanent, large-scale change at this time. In a comment to Ehandel.se, he explains his view on the matter:

It would have been interesting if they had rolled it out widely, but that would have meant they had to choose an e-commerce store more aggressively algorithmically. However, they have started to incorporate ad formats into the intermediate step to be able to present products directly in search and AI results, says Pontus Vippelius, adding:

Therefore, I do not believe this will be anything more than a small shopping test that also appears to be only in the shopping tab.
