Chain Breaks 80 Million Mark – But Profit Shrinks

New manager takes over after CEO departure.

After a year with new store establishments and a stated plan to optimize Lakritsroten's physical locations, fresh figures show a sales increase. At the same time, the macroeconomic situation is making itself felt in the industry, as higher costs put pressure on the bottom-line result.

During the 2025 financial year, Lakritsroten reported a turnover of 80.3 million Swedish krona. This represents an increase of 11 percent compared to the previous year. However, despite the higher sales, profitability is decreasing. Operating profit landed at 1.5 million krona for the year, compared to 1.6 million krona in 2024.

The reason for the change in results is directly linked to the general price level.

The continued increase in inflation has led to higher operating costs for the company, which has had a negative impact on the company's net margin, according to the management report.

Restructuring in Store Network

The company operates retail within licorice through 14 physical stores and e-commerce. The stores are located in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö, Uppsala, Linköping and at Arlanda Airport.

During the year, physical relocations have been carried out to reach target groups more effectively.

A contributing factor is a strategic optimization of the stores' geographical location, where a new store has opened on an attractive street in Stockholm and a store in Malmö, while an older store was phased out, the company writes about the positive sales development.

In addition to moving stores, the company has focused on developing the premises inside. The work on the store environment has aimed to benefit both consumers and staff, which, according to the company, has been well received by customers as well as partners.

During the year, the company employed an average of 29 people, an increase from 27 people the year before.

New Strategy and Operational Management

Changes are also taking place in how the daily work is managed. After the previous CEO left his assignment at the end of last year, a different path forward has been chosen for the operation of the company.

In connection with a newly developed strategy, Lakritsroten's CEO has left the company and an operationally responsible manager has been recruited to run the ongoing business, the company writes further in the report.
