The investment, which is the company’s largest to date in France, covers expenses for both infrastructure and ongoing operations. It includes the construction of new logistics centers, investments in the existing network, and further development of cloud services and AI capabilities via AWS.
The expansion will result in the opening of four new distribution centers. Three facilities in Illiers-Combray, Beauvais, and Colombier-Saugnieu will be inaugurated in 2026, which are expected to generate 5,000 jobs collectively. Another distribution center is planned for Ensisheim at the end of 2027, creating 2,000 positions.
The purpose of the expanded network is to place warehouses closer to consumers. This geographical proximity is expected to shorten delivery times and simultaneously reduce transport distances.
Jean-Baptiste Thomas, Amazon’s Country Manager in France, comments on the investment:
The investment plan of over 15 billion euros has a clear ambition: to become even more useful for the French people and the French economy. This means faster deliveries, a wider range of products, and low prices throughout France – with a reduced environmental footprint through a proximity-based logistics network.
He adds that the investments are also intended to support French companies that sell their goods through the platform or use the company’s cloud and AI solutions.
The investment is also welcomed from a political perspective. France’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Trade, Nicolas Forissier, says in a statement:
This investment sends a strong signal: our country attracts, and more importantly, it gives investors confidence to commit long-term. Behind these 15 billion euros are thousands of jobs, local communities moving forward, and concrete opportunities for our businesses.
Amazon has invested over 30 billion euros in its French operations since 2010. The company currently has over 25,000 permanent employees in the country and claims to be one of France’s largest private sector job creators.
