Top List: Sweden's Best Online Stores – According to Consumers

After mapping Sweden's 100 largest e-commerce companies based on turnover, Ehandel.se has now investigated how the same companies perform when customers are allowed to rate them. The result shows a clear discrepancy between sales volume and customer satisfaction, with several smaller players outperforming the industry giants.

In the previously published Top 100 list, the e-commerce companies were ranked based on their revenue, with the Swedish fashion giant in an unchallenged first place. To provide a broader picture of the e-commerce landscape, Ehandel.se has now supplemented the data with customer reviews from Trustpilot. The mapping covers the 97 companies from the Top 100 list that have a page with reviews on the review site.

The ranking is primarily based on average rating. In the event of a tie, the proportion of answered negative comments decides, followed by the total number of reviews.

At the top of the list of companies with the highest customer satisfaction are Minprilla.se, followed by Svensktkosttillskott.se and Snusbolaget.se. All three show an average rating of 4.8. It also appears that the tobacco segment performs well generally when it comes to maintaining high customer satisfaction, with several representatives in the absolute top.

Major Shifts

When the sales list is compared to customer ratings, clear shifts emerge. The most notable rise is for Snusme.com. The company is ranked 97th in turnover, but climbs to 5th place in terms of customer satisfaction.

At the opposite end is H&M. The company that tops the turnover list lands in 94th place out of 97 when customers have their say, which represents a negative gap of 93 positions.

Boozt and Royaldesign Stand Out

When the data is broken down further, several interesting patterns emerge regarding how e-commerce companies handle their customer service. Boozt.com is the company that stands out the most in pure volumes. With 388,548 reviews, they maintain an average rating of 4.4 and a response rate of 98 percent on negative comments.

In a comprehensive overall assessment – taking into account both ranking on the turnover list, customer ratings and response rate – Royaldesign.se takes a leading position. They combine a 46th place on the turnover list with a 37th place in customer ratings, and have also responded to 100 percent of their negative reviews (based on just over 40,000 reviews in total). Minprilla.se and Bangerhead.se closely follow in the overall assessment.

  • Presence: 97 of the 100 largest e-commerce companies are on Trustpilot. (Toteme, Nordicpouch and Spelbutiken do not have pages or have pages without reviews and are excluded).
  • Subscription: 36 of the 97 companies pay for a Trustpilot subscription, while 90 companies have registered (claimed) profiles.
  • Average rating: The average rating (mean) for the companies on the list is 3.63. The median rating is 4.1.
  • Response rate: 20 companies on the list have responded to 100 percent of all negative reviews. At the same time, 15 companies have a registered profile but have answered zero (0) percent of the negative comments.
