E-commerce Retailer Gives Up After Millions in Debt – Files for Bankruptcy

After the customer chaos.

In recent months, problems have grown for the e-commerce retailer Dalarna Design of Sweden AB, a company that has sold souvenirs from Dalarna to customers across the country. The online store has been closed since the end of last year, and complaints from buyers who have not received their goods have increased at both the Swedish Consumer Agency and the General Complaints Board. The Swedish Tax Agency took action earlier this spring by submitting an application to the district court, but now it is clear that the retailer itself has chosen to abandon attempts to save the company. The bankruptcy is therefore final and puts an end to the business.

On March 18, 2026, the Swedish Tax Agency submitted a bankruptcy application to Falun District Court. A few weeks later, on April 9, the company itself chose to file for bankruptcy at Mora District Court. The final bankruptcy decision was made the following day, April 10. A bankruptcy administrator has been appointed and the website Dalarnadesign.se is offline.

The financial situation at Dalarna Design of Sweden AB has been strained for some time.

The company has a total debt balance with the Swedish Enforcement Authority of a total of 1.3 million Swedish krona. In mid-February, the authority attempted to seize assets. The investigation revealed that the debtor lacked known assets that could be seized to cover the debts.

The list of claims includes several of the actors with whom the company has previously collaborated. Historically, the register of individual cases consists of 81 cases with a total amount of 1.3 million krona. At the same time, the general cases have amounted to 3.4 million krona over time, distributed over 36 cases. These largely concern unpaid taxes via the company's tax account and late payment fees according to the Annual Accounts Act.

In the company's most recently submitted annual report, which extended to the end of April 2024, a turnover of 9.2 million krona was reported. The operating profit for the same period amounted to 262,600 krona.
