On March 27th, Google announced the rollout of the March 2026 Core Update has begun. According to the company, it is a general update to the search engine's algorithms.

This is a regular update designed to better highlight relevant, satisfying content for searchers from all types of websites, Google states.

The update is the first to the core algorithm in 2026 and follows shortly after a spam update that was implemented between March 24th and 25th, as well as an update to Google Discover in February.

Pontus Vippelius, Head of SEO at Adrelevance, comments on the rollout:

We have seen many tests in the search results since February 14th and we expect that one of these versions that has been tested is now being rolled out widely in the March 2026 Core Update.

An update of this type involves broad changes in how domains are evaluated based on content, technology and authority. Developments in AI-powered search results are mentioned as another factor that may affect the visibility of e-commerce businesses in the future.

Wait Before Making Major Changes

Google emphasizes that a decline in ranking does not automatically indicate that a website has deficiencies. There are no specific actions that guarantee recovery, but the company encourages website owners to maintain a long-term focus on users.

There is nothing new or special that creators need to do for this update as long as they have created satisfying content intended for people, Google states.

During the ongoing rollout, e-commerce businesses are recommended to monitor data such as traffic and ranking daily, but at the same time wait with major technical or content changes until the situation has stabilized. The focus should instead be on analyzing market patterns to understand which types of players are increasing in visibility, and maintaining a long-term perspective as a possible decline in search results is often adjusted over time or with future updates.
