Kustom, formerly known as Klarna Checkout, continues its expansion. Through the acquisition of Vipps MobilePay's checkout solution, the company is expanding its customer base by over 3,000 merchants and adding a transaction volume of more than 7 billion Norwegian kroner.

In addition to the acquisition, the parties are initiating a strategic distribution collaboration. The agreement means that Kustom will become the recommended checkout partner for Vipps MobilePay, while Vipps and MobilePay's product portfolio will be integrated and offered to Kustom's existing merchants.

Our long-term ambition is to revolutionize European commerce. This acquisition strengthens our position in the Nordics and creates new opportunities. Not least through even greater volume, expanded geographical presence and an important strategic partnership, says Kamjar Hajabdolahi, CEO of Kustom.

Focusing as a Digital Wallet

Vipps MobilePay was created through a merger of Norwegian Vipps and Danish MobilePay. The company's digital wallet is currently used by over 12 million users in the Nordics. By divesting the checkout solution, the company is choosing to shift its focus to strengthen its core business.

With Kustom as a partner, you can find Vipps and MobilePay in more online stores faster than we can achieve on our own, says Rune Garborg, CEO of Vipps MobilePay.

He adds that the market is characterized by increasing competition from global technology companies:

To stand stronger in the competition, we need to refine our role as a digital wallet, strengthen distribution through partnerships and focus fully on the customer experience.

The transition of merchants to Kustom's platform will begin during the second quarter of 2026 and the process is expected to be completed in early 2027. According to Kustom, merchants will retain their current prices in connection with the change, while gaining access to a wider range of services.

High Pace for the Payment Company

The acquisition takes place during a busy period for Kustom. As recently as Wednesday, the company announced that it raised 367 million Swedish kronor from Resurs Bank. The deal also included a partnership focused on corporate loans and B2B invoices, where Resurs Bank will in turn offer Kustom's checkout solution to its affiliated e-merchants.

Kustom was established as an independent company in October 2024. During 2025, a technical migration was carried out where over 24,000 merchants were moved to a new platform based on Stripe. The company has recently also launched the analysis tool Insight Dashboards as well as POS systems for physical retail.
